Development Branch Merged!
Tremulous
Monday, 05 October 2009 23:14
While the members of the Tremulous community sleep soundly in their beds, going about their daily lives with indifference, the Tremulous developers work long and hard within the bitter cold of the Internet to develop the next version of Tremulous. We are pleased to make an announcement about the upcoming 1.2 release:

Today, the MGDev development branch has been merged into the main Tremulous trunk. Over 500 new code commits have taken place, each of them lovingly developed and tested by the developers, along with invaluable aid from the Mercenaries Guild and various community members over the course of the past few months. Thousands of lines of code have been added to the trunk. What does this mean? It means that all the shiny new features and slick new interfaces and balance changes that have been developed and tested with such care by the developers are now included in the main Tremulous codebase. They are now part of the Tremulous trunk that will soon become Tremulous 1.2!

This is most recent significant step we"ve made towards our 1.2 release, and we"ve covered much territory with this monumental effort. The majority of the effort from here on out involves polishing the beta release; keep your ears tuned for news!

Master filter in effect
Tremulous
Tuesday, 18 August 2009 16:17
As of a few moments ago, the master server was restarted, and now ignores servers that do not report a hostname. As far as I know, only two servers may not have managed to change their hostname in time, only one of which I was not able to contact and warn again today, so most of you will probably notice little if any disruption in service.

Soon I will be taking another look at the list to see how things have changed, and possibly reviewing the policy. Server owners may rest assured that I will always leave at least a week"s notice before implementing any further changes, but keep watching this space!

Master list tightening
Tremulous
Monday, 10 August 2009 20:16
I"m sure everyone"s noticed that a lot of servers on the master list have no name, and that this makes it sometimes very difficult to differentiate between them. As of a few minutes ago the new Python master server (undergoing live testing at master.tremulous.net:30700 if you remember) has started ignoring servers that do not report a hostname, so if your hostname is blank you may wish to consider filling it in with something more descriptive and unique.

Starting next Tuesday (the 18th) we will also be extending this same restriction to the default 1.1 master, so you may find that if you do not use a more reasonable name your players will no longer be able to see you on the server list. Note that this is not an invitation to name your server something else ridiculous, and if we find that people are continuing to use similarly illegible or homogeneous names, we will further restrict the acceptation criteria, or manually delist individual servers if necessary.

Work on 1.2 is, as ever, gently coasting along :)

Creating the Official Tremulous Map Repository
Tremulous
Sunday, 02 August 2009 13:47
Under developer direction, DavidSev and Wireddd are working on an official map repository for Tremulous.

The repository will most likely become the default http download location for the next version of Tremulous, as well as provide a whole host of really cool features. Along with the creation of the repository we will most likely implement a new basic set of rules governing Tremulous maps and we would love some more input from mappers in the community on these rules.

Check out this thread on the forums for more information, and how you can get involved!
